¤·····Subject: Fw: Another record of Nov. 2003 terminator protrusion?

 Received; 1 November 2012 at 20:16 JST

 ----- Original Message -----

Dear Dr. Minami, Christophe, When I was searching in the 2003 CMO Mars Gallery the other day for unintended Martian stereo pair images, I stumbled across another candidate for the record of the prominent terminator projection observed in Nov. 2003, a color drawing by Mario FRASSATI on 17 Nov. 2003. I have attached here a montage including his drawing. How was the solar activity then?

Trying to bring my Jupiter processing a bit more up-to-date. This image from the 14th was constructed from an RGB,RGB,RGB sequence, all one minute videos. Seeing not great.

On this date I only managed to get one 60s video through the red filter before it clouded. Pity as the seeing was good. Here's the result.

Dears,
Jupiter with Ganymede and its shadow's transit. Seeing was good at the
beginning in infrared, as usual Galileo Regio (dark zone) and the bright
zone around Osiris crater on Ganymede:
http://www.astrosurf.com/delcroix/images/planches/j20121024i-03h51.0UT-MDe.jpg

Unfortunately seeing was very variable when I started 4 LRGB series, at
the end only 2 reds, 2 greens, 1 luminance and 1 blue came out good enough:

Luminance:
http://www.astrosurf.com/delcroix/images/planches/j20121024l-04h05.7UT-MDe

Red layer:
http://www.astrosurf.com/delcroix/images/planches/j20121024r-04h03.2UT-MDe.jpg

Green layer, unfortunately really below the red and blue layers,
degrading the result of my LRGB:
http://www.astrosurf.com/delcroix/images/planches/j20121024g-04h00.6UT-MDe.jpg

Blue layer, good surprise, nicely detailled thanks to a momentary good
seeing period (that was really nice to see on the screen):

Finally a methane image, stopped short due to haze coming :

This has been sitting on my desktop for a long time. Good conditions (by our standards) on September 25 enabled this capture. This was constructed from a sequence of videos RGB,RGB,RGB,R all of 1 minute duration.

A lot of cloud at the moment.

 Received; 25 October 2012 at 18:29 JST

Hi Guys This is the last set from me taken during Damian and my self's trip to South Carolina and Georgia, and most enjoyable it was too. See was not so good this evening, but after a very poor start it did show some "Worth doing something " periods. I processed 2 out of 3 imaging runs. Since returning to UK I have not even seen Jupiter, as the sky is in a vegetative state.

¤·····Subject: Jupiter impacts detection software available on PVOL-IOPW

 Received; 23 October 2012 at 22:59 JST

Dear all,
Please forgive me if this message arrives to you through several media.
Jupiter observation by amateur astronomers has steadily increased over the last years in number of observers and quality of the observations. The International Outer Planets Watch and its database of visual observations PVOL (http://www.pvol.ehu.es) store observations by many of you that have largely contributed to our advances in our knowledge of the dynamics of the jovian atmosphere. We have posted a software tool able to detect fireball impacts in Jupiter that could interest your attention. You can find this software on the PVOL webpage
http://www.pvol.ehu.es/software
or through the links in the PVOL webpage
http://www.pvol.ehu.es/
We warmfull acknowledge helpfull discussions and ideas shared with Emil Kraaimkap, Marc Delcroix and John H. Rogers. We hope the software will be helpfull to those of you interested in finding this type of Jupiter impacts.

Hi Guys

There will be a feast of data from South Carolina for this week, as Damian and I visited Jim Phillips observatories. I was great to finally meet Jim, my Cyber Friend of 8 years. I thank him for his 5 star hospitality the use of his scopes and his guns and ammo ! Imaging was a three way event with us bods flowing round the scope and taking turns in the capture seat. Seeing was good for the best part, the last session on the 14th being the only iffy seeing night. Now back home, comes the hours of processing !

This is a set from the 10th using both a Flea 3 colourcam and Flea 3 mono both 1/4 inch chip versions. It was certainly very nice to see Jupiter on screen in colour.

Best wishes

¤·····Subject: Retroreflection on Mars

 Received; 05 October 2012 at 12:27 JST

Dear Dr. Minami, all areoholics, Attached here is a snapshot by the exploration rover Opportunity in Meridiani Planum showing its own shadow cast on the dust-covered Martian ground. Note its shadow (more accurately its camera's) is surrounded by a bright aureole.

The prominent anti-solar brightning just looks like the ones photographed on the Moon (see also attached another photo by Apollo 17 astronaut Eugene Cernan) suggesting the strong retroreflectivity of Martian dust which might have retroreflective properties comparable to those of Lunar regolith including coherent backscattering. The remarkable retroreflectivity of Martian dust, I guess, may be responsible for the gNix Olympicah phenomenon, presumably a special opposition surge occurs on the gigantic volcano Olympus Mons only observable under near zero phase angle condition.

Hi folks---

Some solar Ha shots from Sept 23 and 26 are attached.  The first is an inverted image with starry background which really (I think) shows old Sol as just part of the "stellar gang".  The close up shots are with the Coronado 90 scope at .7A and the full disks are with the Luntanado 100 at .5A.  Starry background courtesy of my old Tak FSQ106N.  The camera was my DMK 41 USB.

Hi Guys here are a few images from earlier in the month. ( I Have been spending some time on Jupiter and getting to grips with WinJupos Derotation tools).

The have been quite a few very faint spooky and quite large proms lurking at the threshold of acquisition, I just have to give them a go.

On the 08:53ut image of AR 1579 My attention was drawn to a "straight line", in fact it is a double line. Some sort of Solar Tsunami I wonder ? Anyone? I have added a Gong archive image . A marvelous website where they put out a complete ha image every 10 seconds or so, "forever" !
