Sending you my last Mars image from March 25, showing what appears to be the northern cap at the extreme limb.

Looking back at my previous images, the cap appears to be visible on February 12 and 14 as well, while on Feb 11, 10 and 6,(also) the hood is visible, expanding further south and being brighter towards the morning limb. There appears to be considerable variation in the extent and brightness of the hood.

With best wishes,

Hi all,

Here is an image from March 25th. Fair conditions.

Syrtis Major is prominent at right with Hellas below it covered in clouds.

Mars is now 255 million km from us - almost four times further away than it was in Oct 2020 hence its now much harder to record fine details on its small disk.

Hi All,

Attached a Mars IR image from the 24 March session under rather poor seeing condition.

Visually (X800), the desert area wore strong reddish hue, and the dark features showed rather remarkable contrast.

NPC suspected along the northern limb though uncertain. Elysium Mons was at 11am local time, afternoon orographic cloud might have started forming?

Worth trying B light imaging?

Dear all,

Attached please some Mars observations I have previously not reported.

The northern Mare Acidalium region has been frequently covered by a prominent NPH, especially towards the morning side, while the NPH has been largely absent or faint at other longitudes. I do not think my resolution is high enough to detect the northern cap.

Seeing has been mostly poor with my telescope, only on a couple of occasions has seeing been average. However, in near-IR wavelengths surface features are still easily detectable.

In a few weeks I believe the observation campaign will be over for me. With Mars moving towards the western horizon, it will be occulted soon by our large birch trees. However, till then I will continue imaging, hopefully under a little better conditions now when spring has arrived.

With best wishes,

Hi All,

Attached here an IR image from the session on 11 March, just ten years from the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake.

Seeing wasnft that good, but visually the contrast of the dark features seemed to be higher, and whole the Martian disk showed stronger reddish tint. No particular change noticed for the albedo markings.

Hi all,

Its a real struggle getting anything reasonable with Mars looking more like a wildly shaking amoeba than a planet under the recent evening conditions.

The view is centred on Amazonis, with Elysium at lower right and Propontis lower centre. A hint of cloud in both the north and south. The IR at least cuts through the conditions to some extent.

Dear all,

Here are my Mars images from five dates in February.

There have been quite a few opportunities for imaging the past month, which is somewhat of a surprise, but seeing has been generally poor.

The NPH has been invariable present near the morning terminator when seeing has been adequate.

I am now catching up with processing and have a few more results to send from this period, which will arrive as soon as possible.

With all the best wishes,

Hi all,

Image set from early this evening.

M Cimmerium extends across most of the upper section of the plant, with the S Gomer extensions just visible at upper right. Elysium is at lower right.

Bright cloud covers the north (NP Hood?), and there is also a bank of cloud over the Electris region in the SE(upper left).

Best regards,
