Hi all,

Image set from early this evening.

M Cimmerium extends across most of the upper section of the plant, with the S Gomer extensions just visible at upper right. Elysium is at lower right.

Bright cloud covers the north (NP Hood?), and there is also a bank of cloud over the Electris region in the SE(upper left).

Hi all,

Mars two days after Perseverance landing. What I am hoping will be the end of what I have no doubt is the longest period of cloud since I started serious imaging in 2014. With Mars already at 20 deg N and dropping towards my neighbours roof, and plenty of thermal activity following a hot day, it will remain a difficult target for me as it reduces in size.

But I was off course excited to catch Syrtis Major, knowing that Perseverance Rover is safely settled in Jezero crater on the lower left edge of SM.

I guess one fortunate aspect of the cloudy weather is that it coincided with Jupiter and Saturn at Solar Conjunction. It doesn’t often work in our favour like that!

These were all taken with my 444mm Newtonian from the UK.

I also managed to complete a map of Mars, one annotated and one not, which may be of interest.

I have attached here Mars images from the 13 February session.

Seeing was quite uncooperative as recent days. Managed to squeeze out some features with 1msec exposure, 190X190 ROI, averaged 317 fps and 3% stacking from 90.000 frames captured.

The great curve of Thoth-Nepenthes seems to be starting revival?

Hi All,

When I look up to the evening winter higher sky, Betelgeuse, Aldebaran and Mars looked quite alike, similar brightnesses with resembling orangey colors, and were all twinkling crazily!!

Visually no feature was recognizable on the bouncing tiny Martian disk, but I dared to take mars images because it was almost the day of Martian equinoxes, vernal for the northern hemisphere and autumnal for southern one.

 

Showing here the image I managed to squeeze out with 1msec exposure with minimal ROI, 317 average fps and 5% stack from 90.000frames captured. Seems no significant change on this side of albedo markings. Some dusty or hazy matters floating on southern hemisphere?

Attached here a color Mars image taken on 30 January 2021 under almost hopeless seeing condition. The stout Nessie sticking its neck out of Niliacus Lacus is stayin’ alive.

 I am also attaching here an interesting image taken on the same day by the Mars Express Visual Monitoring Camera, showing a long elongated dawn cloud extending westward over 1.000km from Elysium Mons, and its shadow cast just north off the trailing cloud. It can be an Elysium Version of the AMEC or Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud which has been repeatedly observed since 1971 during the Martian season λ=230°~305° in every Martian year??
